Sudbury is situated at the heart of Suffolk & Nedging Hall Estate, meaning that there are plenty of trails & hikes to explore...
SUDBURY TOWN TRAIL
1. Beginning at the Brewery Tap, step out of our doors and take a right turn onto East Street
​
2. Follow the road until the Sudbury Arts Centre is reached at Market Hill
​
3. Take a slight right to continue down Market Hill
​
4. Upon reaching a fork in the road, take a left onto the Frairs Street (B1115)
​
5. Follow the road round passing the Sudbury Cricket Field to the left
​
6. Follow the road round to the left passing All Saints Church on Church Street
​
7. Follow the road round to the right, before reaching a junction at Cross Street
​
8. Take a left turn and pass over the bridge
​
9. Just before the overhead bridge take a right onto a footpath
​
10. Follow the path Northward until a right turning becomes available
​
11. Take the right turn and continue Eastward over the River Stour
​
12. After crossing the bridge continue in a straight ahead in a North-East direction, until reaching a bridge that crosses The Croft Watermeadow
​
13. Do not cross over the bridge, but continue onward with rivers either side
​
14. Pass Mill Acre to your left
15. Continue in a Northward direction then take a slight left turn upon reaching another bridge – do not pass over the bridge
16. Continue over 2 bridges into Brundon
17. After the 2nd bridge take a left turn in the direction of another bridge
18. Pass over the 3rd bridge
19. Take a right turn onto Brundon Lane
20. Follow the road until Brundon Water Mill & Millpond is reached
21. Continue over the bridge
22. Take a right turn off the road onto a footpath
23. Follow the footpath until Melford Road is reached
24. Follow Melford Road back into Sudbury
25. At the road-fork marked by St Johns Methodist Church take a right turn
26. Follow the road to St Gregory’s Church
27. Pass by the Church and take a left turn at the junction before School Street
28. Follow the road to the Gainsborough’s House
29. Continue back to Market Hill
30. Take a left onto East Street to return to The Brewery Tap
SUDBURY TO BURES WALK
1. Turn left to the Kingfisher Leisure Centre
2. Access The Gainsborough Trail: Meadow Walk through the trail station lorry park
3. Follow the footpath to the right
4. Continue crossing over the River Stour
5. Take a left just before Ballingdon St
6. Follow the footpath until Middleton Road is reached
7. Cross over the road & continue over through Meadow View Road
8. Follow the road round to the left
9. Turn right onto Pinecroft Rise
10. At the top of the playing field take a slight left turn through the trees
11. Follow the footpath South through the forest
12. Upon exiting the woodland continue along the farmland edge in the same Southward direction
13. Pass the industrial estate to your left and continue to follow the path South
14. After passing Thorncroft Farm crossover Church Lane to St Mary the Virgin Church
15. Pass the church and continue Southward until Little Hickbuch Road is reached
16. Take a left turn and follow the road
17. Upon reaching a left corner take a slight right turn onto Great Hickbush
18. At the end of the road take a by-path to the left of the collection of houses
19. Follow the footpath until a right turning across farmland becomes available
20. Cross over the farmland
21. Cross over a River Stour tributary and continue South passing through trees & Valley Farm
22. Upon an intersection take a sharp left onto Twinstead Road
23. Follow for a few hundred yards and turn right onto a footpath that leads along the hedgerow of farmland
24. Continue Southward following the path to the left
25. Take a right turning onto Henny Road
26. Follow the road and continue round to the left onto Bell Hill
27. Follow Bell Hill Road & Lamarsh Hill Road to Bures Hamlet
28. Take a right on Station Hill to reach Bures Station
SUDBURY TO LONG MELFORD WALK
1. Beginning at the Brewery Tap, step out of our doors and take a right turn onto East Street
2. Upon reaching Market Hill turn right onto Gaol Lane
3. Follow the lane until a T-junction is reached, here take a turn to the right onto Croft Road
4. Follow the road up to The Croft Watermeadows
5. Cross over the bridge & continue to follow the path keeping the river to your right side
6. Continue Northward, walking past the bridge to the right
7. Cross over the bridge at Fulling Pit Weir and continue in a North-West direction
8. Pass over another bridge and on the other side follow the path to the left
9. Continue over one more bridge leading into Brundon
10. Cross over Brundon Lane
11. Turn right into a forest area beneath a bridge
12. Continue Northward through the woodland
13. Cross over Mill Road and continue through the woodland until Borely Road is reached
14. Turn right and pass over the bridge
15. Passing Melford Country Park, follow the road to Long Melford
16. Take a left turn at Sudbury Road to pass through the centre of the town
